Handmade Home

thurs

I am a compulsive craft book buyer. Lots of them I never even use but I love to just have them in my library to browse at whenever I am in need of inspiration. Today's latest craft book purchase though I thoroughly enjoyed. Handmade Home by Amanda Blake Soule is refreshing and original. From those braided rugs to vintage handkerchiefs sewn onto curtains they were almost all original and could be from repurposed materials. I have been really eyeing that braided rug page today and have a feeling I am going to make it first. 🙂

Don't you just love finding treasures like this on your doorstep?
My copy of Sew Sunny Homestyle by Tilda arrived today and I couldn't be more excited. I honestly think this is the best Tone Finnanger book as of yet. There are so
many different projects inside such as bags, baskets, angels, a sewing
kit, slippers, pillows, loads of plush creatures (even a plush
sandcastle and shell), I could go on and on. The photography is
beautiful and inspiring and the project instructions even have images
of the steps in case you get stuck on something. I would definitely
recommend this book to anyone that loves sewing/crafting.

Here are a few of the projects inside. Sorry for the funky quality of these photos. My camera wasn't cooperating.

I haven't been sewing much lately. My fabric is in boxes and piles everywhere and is becoming to hard to find the prints I need for a project. I just don't have time for it these days. They haven't done anything on our house in over a week now which is upsetting. I was really hoping to be moved by the end of the year so I can set up my new studio.
My creative space now is on the floor using a box I store all my painting supplies as a desk. I have joined the cutest mixed media class by Suzi Blu. It's a completely different type of craft for me but I have been enjoying it so far and it's been taking my mind off of all the stress around here lately.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week. I may not be back again until the weekend. 🙂

So here are some of the projects out of this Japanese sewing book.
Most of the bags use the basic tote pattern so I will mostly use this book for inspiration.
There are a few though at the bottom that are a little unique.

I wish I knew what the actual names of these books were. It would help my post titles not be so lame.

012

Anyway this book has a bunch of cute stuff in it. I'll just post the photos since I have to finish up my Lizzy Dish quilt.
Yes I am pre posting. I do that from time to time, the secret is out.

New Japanese craft/sewing book

002

I know I said the last book was my favorite of this book order but this one is now that I have opened it.
It's filled with the prettiest/cutest bags ever! Here are some of the photos of the projects inside. I will start with the bag I will be making as soon as I possibly can.

003

I don't know what it is about it but I absolutely love it. I hope I can figure out how to make it. Maybe next weekend….

Ta-daaa. Here is one of my favorite Japanese craft books I got the other day. I don't know what the name of it is but it's filled with patchwork projects. Even a cute little hexagon bag. I can't decide what to make first but I need to figure it out and get started on it so I can open up the next book.

Here are a few photos of some of the projects inside.

Unfortunantely I have to work tomorrow. I guess I can think about what I will make though during the day and then get into it when I get home. I may make those kitchen items on the book cover (first photo) with my Lizzy Dish fabric. It will go along with my Sunday Stash.

So I have always wanted to use appliqué on projects but really didn't know how to do it. I just pushed in in the back of my mind with the crochet/knitting wish and forgot about it. However, at the bookstore yesterday I found this delightful little book filled with adorable appliqué patterns and detailed instructions on how to do it.

Here are some pictures from the inside.

This book had me with the mushrooms…..

Since this book tells you how to actually do appliqué maybe I can start using the patterns from my Japanese appliqué book I have had for over a year. 🙂

I shouldn't have this book right now because I shouldn't have taken a lunch break at work today.
I couldn't stand it there anymore though and needed a bookstore trip to keep me from flinging myself out the window. So to Barnes & Noble I went.

I was going to get Where Women Create but as expected they were sold out. Luckily even though the store is half empty because it's moving locations the craft book area was packed with new books. I immediately grabbed Sew Darn Cute because look at it. It's adorable and I needed something happy to cheer me up.

Here are a few photos of the projects I want to do first.

005

I love this tote bag but need a yo yo maker. I know I could make yo yo's by hand but honestly do not see me having the time right now to do that. Isn't it cute though??

002

Eyeglass case that I want.

That little canister might be the first thing I make though. I could use it as a pen holder at work since I don't knit.

Too many projects and too little time to do them all in.  🙂

My latest craft book acquisition did not disappoint. I fought the holiday crowd at Barnes & Noble to get the book I ordered well over a week ago. The book was Sitched in Time by Alicia Paulson and is right up there with the Sew Pretty Homestyle books in my opinion. There are so many projects I want to do. Here are a few photos of the pages.

These next two are my favorites projects I would like to do before the end of the year.

If time permits I will be doing the matching game project this weekend. I think it would be entertaining for the kids on the airplane trip to FL coming up. The only thing I don't like about the book is that some of the projects are using that fabric paper you put in the printer to print out images. Unfortunantely my printer is old and can't handle the thickness so I am unable to do those projects. 😦 That isn't the books fault though so I can't hold it against it.

I have gotten behind on some things this week with work, the upcoming holiday, and I haven't been feeling so well. I have lots of packages to get out in the mail and will get those dropped off Saturday. So for those of you expecting something from me consider it on the way after this weekend. That includes presents, giveaways, orders, etc.
Also I will be getting a giveaway ready this weekend as well. I can't decide when I want to post it though. I didn't want it to be over the holiday since people are so busy and I will be gone too so I was thinking maybe the middle of next week.
Hmm..I'll have to think about it….

I'll leave you with one of my failed new banner images.   I worked for hours on trying to get a new header photo for this blog but never was satisfied with the outcomes.
