Quick Quilt

001 copy

Just a preview of the quilt I am working on. It's almost complete  I just wasn't able to finish quilting it. Christian loves it though and is still using it until I am done. He calls it his fabric blanket.

I'll post more photos when it's finished.
( Not sure why he looks so surprised. Something must have happened on Mickey)

There has been some sewing here lately. Granted an old sewing machine was used on a tiny little night stand, but something wonderful has come out of it.

013

I used a Woodland Delight charm pack and some white webbing for the strap. It was a simple project but I loved how it turned out. Plus it felt good to sew again since it's been so long. I definitely want to purchase more Woodland Delight fabric but refuse to purchase anything else until we move. Our storage is at max capacity now.

Sewing

My family and I moved into my parents house in November. Our house being built was supposed to be done by Christmas and we wanted to sell our old place in the meantime. Well we sold our old place but unfortunately the new house still isn't done. I've been without my sewing machine & art supplies for two months now and I finally broke down and decided to change that tonight. I went into my parents basement and found the Kenmore and plugged it in. The Kenmore isn't my favorite machine but it's the only one not buried in all our moving boxes so it will have to do. Besides, it's not a horrid machine like the Singer is. I hate using that one. I honestly don't even know why I still have it.

Please don't laugh. The machine is bigger than the table it rests on. I sit on the edge of the bed for the chair. It's pretty sad. But it still gets the job done!

Here is my patchwork bag in progress. If I can find a lining piece I'll finish it up Saturday.

1st project of the year

Sewing those 18 charm squares together made my day.

I've been holding onto this piece of fabric Trish sent me for awhile now. I simply didn't know what to make with it since the back has a pattern too. I couldn't use it in quilt or pillow because then the back would be hidden.
I decided to go ahead and make a little pencil pouch without fabric for the lining and am really pleased with the outcome.

017

It does have raw edges on the inside but honestly you don't even notice them since they are in the ends.

Here are some more photos.
I couldn't choose which ones I wanted to post so you get them all. I have been busy packing up fabric all day and am really too tired to blog. I'll show you what I have been dealing with tomorrow…be afraid………..

P.S. I think my comments are fixed now. I had to change from Yahoo mail to Gmail so I will have to change my contact page everywhere which is a pain. I am thinking of making some adjustments here anyway though. I need to add some people to my blog list since something happened to my reader and I can no longer get into it.  I am having serious technical issues lately.

Hey everyone! First just wanted to say thanks to everyone that visited my Halloween party and left comments. Some of them had me laughing out loud. 🙂 Typepad for some reason isn't emailing me my comments so I will get back to everyone as soon as I can get that fixed.

It's back to the usual pink fabric projects here now.
My orange and black photos will  go into hiding until next year.

This pouch was borderline torture to create.
I love the looks of the curved tops in Sew Sunny Homestyle but for some reason I could not get the zipper ends to match up when sewing the sides together.

The bad thing about this is that I have a bunch more already cut out and I'm not sure what I am going to do with those pieces. I really am not inclined to actually make another one of these pouches anytime in the near future but don't want to leave this lovely fabric sitting around.

008
I  may just cut them into small pieces for something patchwork

021

I'll have to think about it while I am taking art classes, and trying to learn more about my camera.

Sometimes I wish I didn't have so many hobbies , there isn't enough time in a day to do it all.

Isn't this the cutest pull tab ever?
The Kindle has such whimsical packaging.

DSC01355

I made a case for it today and although it didn't come out as I had hoped, I was pleased with the finished product.

021

Japanese fabric patchwork for the outside
A pocket inside to securely hold the Kindle.

018

I also added an elastic strap for the cording.

019

This was definitely completely different than what I had sketched in my idea book but it will serve it's purpose.
I may try again though tomorrow to achieve my goal of my ideal Kindle case.

I need to get working on my wonky cabin blocks now. I am probably the furthest behind out of everyone.

I am in love with sewing little patchwork bags from the Sew Sunny Homestyle pattern.
They are quick yet turn out so cute. Of course I am drawn to anything patchwork so it would be hard for me not to like it.

On this one I used Bari J's "Full Bloom" line.

I think this print was perfect for the handle with the little vines climbing up.

008

Things have been so busy with the house and kids in school  that it's hard for me to get enough time for blogging. I am still sewing though and hope to be able to join the wonky cabin quilt a long taking place now.
I practiced on some scraps this weekend and think I can manage the bigger block sizes now….I think….

I think I am coming out of my creative slump. I finished the Flea Market Fancy party bag for a friend in no time then proceeded to other projects. I really like how this one came out. I may add a little flower brooch or something to the front. Just to spice it up a bit.

015

It's completely Flea Market Fancy. Even the inside.

016

I really hope she likes it.

I didn't stop there though and decided to make another bag for me using some Floragraphix prints I had for awhile.
I broke out the D-rings that I never seem to use and really like the look of it.

021

I still need a snap though for the closure. I got a pack of them the other day but it was apparently a defective one because I was missing all of one of the pieces.

019

Not sure what I will do next. I love making bags and all but after two in one day I feel like I need to do something else. Perhaps some patchwork projects.  🙂

Today I went to the bookstore at lunch to pick up the latest Artful Blogging.

I had been many times this week to the Barnes and Noble and came out empty handed.  I decided to check out the Books a Million across the street this afternoon. Sure enough they had it, and I was so excited I picked up Green Craft as well.
I hurried back to my shady tree at work to read for the rest of my lunch hour when I came across this photo…

007

It looked familiar….hey…that's the same fabric I got from Mary Jo's…and my Patchwork book for my birthday…this is MY photograph!!

I was thrilled. My favorite magazine company putting MY photo in their latest issue. My tingly feeling left though when I saw who was credited under the photo. I won't name names here but lets just say it wasn't me.

😦

Makes me kinda sad. I don't know how it came about that a cropped photograph I took appeared in a magazine that I regularly buy was credited to a different blogger. I guess that just happens when you put all your photos and thoughts onto the internet. However, I know along with my family, friends,  Flickrland and here that my photo was in that issue and that's all that matters. 🙂

Now to my other latest magazine Green Craft.

008

Green Craft is a wonderful magazine to look at. I doubt I would make or use half of the projects inside but it still was a good read.

009

A lot of the projects consisted of reusing paper bags, cans, etc.

I hate to be this way but it's the simple truth, I just cant see me carrying around a trash-bag….bag…..
It's not that I don't want to be "green" and help the earth as much as I can, there are just so many beautiful fabrics out there that I would rather use them to tote about the town than plastic.

010

Green Craft was worth getting because of the great ideas. Sure a purse made out of Wal-Mart bags isn't my idea of pretty. However, a lavender sachet or quilt of my sons baby clothes are!
I have the cutest little giraffe patch of Christians that I am going to make a lavender sachet from this weekend now.
Another idea from it is a  cute little coffee cozy from an old sweater.
Hopefully Friday at work will go by fast. I have so many things to accomplish.

I found out Monday that my boss is leaving at my work so I've been a little down. The best thing for me to do when I am upset over something is to fabric shop. The beautiful colors on Bari J's Full Bloom line make me smile so I figured having a fat quarter stack of them would brighten my mood.

018

Once they arrived I immediately started making a summer bag out of them.

023

Yellow isn't really my color. but I was strangely drawn to it combined with the blue rose print.

027

I used the idea of the Charming Handbag from Bend the Rules Sewing . It still needs a few little things like a closure and such but I'll have to get to that this weekend. I am just pleased with myself for making something during the week. It's a small little bag to take to work made completely out of fat quarters. Yet it still holds all the things I need.

030

Here is a close up of the teacup print. Isn't it adorable???

Check out Bari J's blog for a chance to win a bundle for yourself.

🙂
